Technical Assistant

Position Summary:

The Technical Assistant is responsible for the proper management of all spare parts
and materials in stores and engine rooms. This position is responsible for treating the
potable water system to the sanitation standards as defined by USPH and company
regulations.
Employees may be required to perform any other job-related duties assigned by their supervisor or management. All
duties and responsibilities are to be performed in accordance with the Company’s Safety, Quality and
Environmental standards.

Qualifications:
  • Ability to coordinate projects, assigns priorities, resolve issues and work
    without supervision.
  • Working knowledge of computers and the ability to navigate within varieties
    of software packages such as excel, word and power point.
  • Excellent communication/social skills
  • Working knowledge of MS Windows and AMOS software.
  • Technical knowledge of Marine spare parts.
  • Capable of calibrating monitors, startup, and shut down of all these water
    systems safely.

Operational Effectiveness:
  • Uses Amos for receiving, issuing and storing of goods and for inventory
    control.
  • Responsible to label, tag, repackage and place them in the correct bins as
    required by Amos.
  • Responsible for checking deliveries against requisition and purchase orders
    for correctness and updating AMOS to reflect materials received and ensuring
    orders received are closed in AMOS properly and promptly.
  • Ensures all repaired items have a tag with the repairers name and date of
    repair.
  • Controls the distribution of parts and tools maintaining a list for the latter as
    required by the Engine Department.
  • Notifies the Technical Support Engineer if changes to the locations of items
    are to be made and ensures all items are placed in their new locations are
    relabeled and any discrepancies for orders received are logged.
  • Responsible to obtain inventory of certain consumables at predetermined
    intervals, such as chemicals stored in the chemical locker, engine room and
    other spaces and notifies Technical Support Officer of frequently used items
    with low inventory.
  • Responsible for packing all items that are to be sent out for repairs, as
    instructed.
  • Keeps oxygen and acetylene room in proper and good order, checks operation
    of exhaust fans, and ensures new gas bottles are ordered when needed.
  • Responsible for treating the potable water system to the sanitation standards
    as defined by USPH and Company Regulations. By the term “potable water
    system” we cover all bunkering, storing and distribution arrangements of
    potable water including the spas. Also in the broader areas of water system are
    included the swimming pools and health gym pool.
  • Monitors levels of consumable chemicals and orders all chemical equipment (pumps, lines, tank levels) and chemical (chlorine) local and remote monitors.
  • Ensures vital monitors for USPH compliance must have back up or spare onboard.Monitors and logs all treatment chemical levels of the water and spa systems and their adjustment as needed to conform to company guidelines and best practices.
  • Responsible for the super chlorination of the water and spa systems.
  • Maintains the potable water systems and all pool and recreational spa water systems including changing filter sand, disinfection of the spa compressors and any other required actions to ensure the safety and wellbeing of our guests and crewmembers.
  • Provides the necessary training for the Technical Assistant to aide in daily Sanitation Engineer duties.

Physical & Language Requirements:
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to
    stand; walk; use hands to touch, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms;
    talk or hear; and taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or
    move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • All shipboard employees must be physically able to participate in emergency life saving procedures and drills. Full use and range of arms and legs as well as full visual, verbal and hearing abilities are required to receive and give instructions in the event of an emergency including the lowering of lifeboats. Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • All shipboard employees must be able to communicate in the English
    language in order to understand and interpret written procedures. This
    includes the ability to give and receive instructions in written and verbal forms
    and to effectively present information and respond to questions from guests,
    supervisors and co-workers.
