Reports To: Head Waiter Restaurant Manager Assistant Food Manager

Position Summary

The Utility Crew Mess Server provides friendly and professional service in the Crew Dining room areas (Officer, Crew mess and Staff mess), according to company standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities


  • Work in assigned crew mess.
  • Replenish food in buffet line and clean the dining area after officers, staff and crew finish eating.
  • Prepared dining area before and after the set meal hours, or occasionally during meal service hours, if required.
  • Follow Shipsan, the European sanitation program, and the United States Public Health rules and regulations at all times.
  • Follow proper service etiquette, remaining polite, friendly and professional at all times while the staff eats.
  • Communicate with galley staff and all supervisors regarding buffet needs, shortages, officers/staff or crew preferences.
  • Work to improve standards and crew satisfaction.
  • Report for duty at assigned times and according to company rules and regulations.
  • Transport the necessary stock from the Main Store to the messes.
  • Attend necessary meetings and training to develop skills in preparation for a future promotion..

Training & Development

  • Attend all meetings, training activities or classes related to assigned position as required.

Safety Responsibilities

  • Maintain a safe and sanitary environment for all guests and crew members.
  • Follow proper procedures and instructions at all times to prevent damage of any kind to ship or company property.
  • Know and comply with Shipsan, the European sanitation program, and United States Public Health rules and regulations pertaining to assigned working area.
  • Participate in safety drills as required.
  • Comply with Marella Cruises’ Safety and Pollution Prevention Program
  • Comply with Marella Cruises’ Operating Procedures Resources.

Knowledge, experience, skill, and/or ability


  • Fluent in written and spoken English,
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with the senior management.
  • Ability to lead and make decisions.
  • Good administrative skills.
  • Experienced in coaching subordinates.
  • Must be cost and quality conscious.
  • Must adhere to specific scheduled work hours, yet be flexible if circumstances require it.
  • Work with international team members.
  • Perform assigned duties under pressure (time constraints)


  • Fluency in additional languages


  • High School education preferred.
  • Minimum of two years food related experience and/or training.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience.
