Assistant Repairman

POSITION SUMMARY
The Assistant Repairman shall carry out the work orders given by the RepairSupervisor. They are skilled workers and must be able to carry out all kinds ofmaintenance and repair work.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES &RESPONSIBILITIES
All duties and responsibilities are to be performed in accordance with RoyalCaribbean International’s The Royal Way, SQM standards, USPH guidelines,environmental, and safety policies. Each shipboard employee may be required toperform all functions in various service venues throughout the ship.In accordance with Royal Caribbean International’s philosophy ofAnchored inExcellence, each employee conducts oneself in a professional and courteous manner atall times. This consists of physical and verbal interactions with guests or fellowshipboard employeesand/or in the presence of guest contact and crewareas.
1. Royal Caribbean places the highest value on the environmentand all employees shall do the same. Those assigned to theAssistant Repairman Position shall work with superiors andsubordinates to understand and comply with the company’senvironmental policies and be committed to safeguard theenvironment. He shall directly and immediately inform hisimmediate superior is any environmental system doesnot functionproperly.
2. TheAssistant Repairman shall carry out duties as instructed bytheHotel Maintenance Managerand Repair Supervisor.
3. He is responsible for the general overhauling and maintenanceof all galley equipment and machinery.
4.Carries out most steelwork, including stainless steel.
5. Responsible for the maintenance and repair of all piping relatedto Hotel operations, such as fresh water, black water, grey water,pulper, drains, etc.
6. Repair and maintenance of the following equipment as assignedby theHotel Maintenance Managerand/or Repair Supervisor:a. Laundry equipment (non-electrical)b. Technical and plumbing equipment in galleys,bars and pantriesc.Filling and emptying duties/technical equipmentfor Jacuzzi, Spas and Poolsd. Welding, including Gas, Electric, TIG, and MIGe. Lathe machine, milling machine and all commonshop equipmentf. Most steelwork, including stainless steelg. General maintenance of plumbing and pipingsystem within the Hotel areas of responsibility
7. Cleaning and maintenance of the workshop and lockers asassigned by the Repair Supervisor.
8. May be required to perform and/or assign additional routinesand work descriptions aslisted in the Planned MaintenanceSystem.
9. Know, follow and enforce SQM policies.
10. Attend mandatory crew and guest safety drills as required.
11. Maintain and encourage theAnchored in Excellencecredo atall times.
12. Perform related duties as assigned by the Facilities Managerand/or Repair Supervisor.
13. Attends meetings, training activities, courses and all otherwork-related activities as required.
14. Performs related duties as required. This position descriptionin no way states or implies that these are the only duties to beperformed by the shipboard employee occupying this position.Shipboard employees will be required to perform any other job-related duties assigned by their supervisor or management.
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum hiring, language and physical requirements to perform the job.
Hiring Requirements:
  • Prior welding and machinist experience is preferred.
Internal Candidate Requirements:
In addition to the stated hiring requirements, internal candidates are required tofulfill the following:
  • Completion of one full contract with a performance rating ofsatisfactory or above.
Language Requirements:
  • Ability to speak English clearly, distinctly and cordially withguests.
  • Ability to read and write English in order to understand andinterpret written procedures. This includes the ability to give andreceive instructions in written and verbal forms and to effectivelypresent information and respond to questions from guests,supervisors and co-workers.
Physical Requirements:
  • While performing the duties of this job, the shipboard employeeis regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to touch, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; talk orhear; and taste or smell. In the event ofan emergency theemployee may be required to sit, stoop, kneel or crawl.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision,distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability toadjust focus.
  • All shipboard employees must be physically able to participatein emergency life saving procedures and drills. Full use and rangeof arms and legs as well as full visual, verbal and hearing abilitiesare required to receive and give instructions in the event of anemergency including the lowering of lifeboats. Ability to liftand/or move up to 50 pounds.
Working Conditions:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee may at times work in outsideweather conditions and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions.Thenoise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
