This ‘someone’ will be responsible for preparing all baked goods throughout the entire ship, sounds epic, right?! This person will be the pastry guru and will know various baking methods so that our croissants taste like they were made in France. We are only accepting the cream of the crop for this gig!

In other words, this ‘someone’ needs to know how to Make Ship Happen. Your excellent attention to detail and self-starter mentality means you can think quick on your feet and keep calm when ship gets real. Ultimately, we won’t be able to remember how we got by without you.

What You’ll be Up to:
  • Always provide a fabulous Sailor (guest) experience
  • Extensive knowledge and experience of various baking techniques, skills, and experience from Europe, France, and Italy
  • Assist in the production, preparation, and baking for different bread rolls, danish, breads, croissants, etc.
  • Follow the menus, recipes, guidelines and methods provided
  • Assist in ensuring that any Sailor (guest) requests for special food requests, diets, or allergies are delivered, think Gluten Free bread
  • Report any machinery / technical faults to the Executive Pastry Chef
  • Follow all HACCP and USPH guidelines
  • Maintain cleanliness and condition of assigned station and service areas
  • Carry out clear down routines after service and ensure the appearance and condition of all items meet Virgin Voyages standards
  • Notify Executive Pastry Chef of any Sailor (guest) complaints raised and see to resolve
  • Be familiar with all cruise services/features and activitations to response to Sailor (guest) inquiries accurately
Super Powers Required:
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience as Assistant Baker / Junior Baker onboard a Cruise ship or a 5 star resort
  • Bakery school qualification
  • Extensive knowledge of food handling procedures with regard to public health standards
  • Excellent understanding of food specifications and bakery techniques
  • Knowledge of Vessel Sanitation Program regulations and procedures
  • All certificates required by the STCW code for this position
  • Ability to read, interpret, and demonstrate the preparation of recipes
  • Basic knowledge of HACCP rules and regulations
  • Strong written & verbal skills
