Dry Cleaning Specialist

Position Summary

Supervises the use of the dry cleaning machines. Responsible for care of delicate fabrics and
stain removal on dry cleaning items. Maintains proper supplies, maintenance, inspections,
chemical usage, and scheduling for dry cleaning machines. Assure efficient collection, sorting,
cleaning, and distribution of laundry. Ensure that proper chemicals are used and disposed of
according to the Approved Chemical List.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

All duties and responsibilities are to be performed in accordance with the Company’s Safety,
Quality and Environmental standards. In accordance with the Company’s STAR program, each
employee shall conduct oneself in a professional and courteous manner at all times. This
consists of physical and verbal interactions with guests or fellow shipboard employees, in the

presence of guests or in crewmember areas.
Each shipboard employee may be required to perform all functions in various service venues and
throughout the ship.

  • Responsible for the appropriate care of delicate, high value garments.
  • Responsible for final inspection of garments before and after dry cleaning and reports any
    damaged items to Laundry Master.
  • Utilize specialized dry cleaning expertise to clean any stains that dry cleaning machines
    cannot remove.
  • Manages the preparation & sorting of soiled linen for dry cleaning.
    Scheduling and prioritization of dry cleaning to meet timelines required for service areas
    & guests.
  • Ironing of delicate garments
  • Check iron roll pressure
  • Responsible for maintenance of dry cleaning machines, including oil levels, chemical
    changes, daily inspections, and cleanliness of dry cleaning area.
  • Inform the Laundry Master about any equipment malfunction or problems with safety
    mechanisms.
  • Report leaking valves, damaged insulation, air and water path.
  • Check safety devises, turning on steam, water and air valves
  • Responsible for ensuring the proper use and disposal of tetrachloroethylene (PERC) and
    other chemicals.
  • Responsible for proper use of safety equipment in the dry cleaning area.
  • Know and follow all SQM policies.
  • Other duties may be assigned. Understand and can apply in work practices environmental
    policies and procedures concerning such functions as collection, sorting and disposal of
    solid wastes and use of chemicals associated with cleaning, dry cleaning and laundry
    operations.
  • Help in other areas as needed including washing, ironing, folding stacking & inspecting
    linen on shelves.
  • Performs related duties as required. This position description in no way states or implies

    assigned by their supervisor or management.

  • This position is responsible for cost containment through the proper use, handling and
    maintenance of records, reports, supplies and equipment.
Motivational Responsibilities

People management responsibilities to ensure optimal performance of the function.

  • This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.
Qualifications
  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience with dry cleaning operations and equipment.
  • Specialized expertise in stain removal
  • Understanding of various stains and chemical reactions
  • Skilled at ironing and dry cleaning of delicate fabrics
  • All shipboard employees must be physically able to participate in emergency life saving
    procedures and drills. Full use/range of motion of arms and legs as well as full visual,
    verbal and hearing abilities are required to receive and give instructions in the event of an
    emergency requiring the lowering of a lifeboat.
Hiring Requirements:
  • Ability to communicate tactfully and effectively with guests, department heads and
    crewmembers to foresee and resolve problems and negotiate resolutions.
  • Completion of high school or GED required; university degree preferred.
Language Requirements:
  • Ability to speak English clearly, distinctly and cordially with guests.
  • Ability to read and write English in order to understand and interpret written procedures. This includes the ability to give and receive instructions in written and verbal forms and
    to effectively present information and respond to questions from guests, supervisors and
    co-workers.
  • Ability to speak additional languages a plus, but not required.
Physical Requirements:
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk;
    use hands to touch, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear; and taste or
    smell. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision
    abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral
    vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • All shipboard employees must be physically able to participate in emergency life saving
    procedures and drills. Full use and range of arms and legs as well as full visual, verbal
    and hearing abilities are required to receive and give instructions in the event of an
    emergency including the lowering of lifeboats. Ability to lift and/or move up to 50
    pounds.
