Repair Supervisor

POSITION SUMMARY
This position is responsible for supervising the work of the AssistantRepairmen/Plumbers in theEngine(Hotel Maintenance) Department. The RepairSupervisor is further responsible for the maintenance and repair of Foodpreparation, Galley Equipment and Machinery, plumbing and related equipmentwithin the Hotel Department, either requested by the Hotel department or requestedby theHotel MaintenanceDispatcher and as directed by theHotel MaintenanceManager.The incumbent must demonstrate an exceptionally positive attitude andthe willingness to fully participate in a dynamic team environment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES &RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Daily work leader/supervisorfor the Repair Assistants andPlumber. Assign and supervise the requests for general facilitiesrepair work, excluding upholstery, electrical, and carpentrywork.
  • Ensure that crew is using the proper safety and protectionequipment in daily operations and those critical working areasare sealed off from passengers and other crew.
  • Responsible for the general overhauling and maintenance of allgalley equipment.
  • Carry out most steelwork, including stainless steel.
  • Responsible for the maintenance and repair of all pipingrelated to Hotel operations, such as fresh water, black water,gray water, pulper, drains etc.
  • Control and assign plumbing and repair work (installations,structural repairs, and inspections) to self and staff in accordancewith the following areas of responsibility:
  • Laundry equipment (non-electrical)
  • Technical and plumbing equipment in galleys,bars and pantries.
  • Filling and emptying duties/ technical equipmentfor Jacuzzi, Spas and Pools.
  • Welding, including TIG and MIG.
  • Lathe machine.
  • Most steelwork, including stainless steel.General Plumbing and Piping
  • Determine the proper storage and control of spare parts andtools within the group. Assign staff regularly to the cleaning andmaintenance of the workshop and lockers.
  • Assist theHotel Maintenance Managerwith budget proposals.
  • Take responsibility for appropriate on-the-job training of thePlumber and Repair Assistants as necessary.
  • May be required to perform and/or assign additional routinesand work descriptions as listed in the Planned MaintenanceSystem.
  • Know, follow and enforce SQM policies.
  • Attend mandatory crew and guest safety drills as required.
  • Maintain and encourage the “Anchored in Excellence” credo atall times.
  • Perform related duties as assignedby theHotel MaintenanceManager.
QUALIFICATIONS
Hiring Requirements:
Minimum hiring, language and physical requirements to perform the job.
  • 5-10 years prior combined experience as a Ship Mechanic,Repairman and/or Machinist, including supervision of same.
  • Cruise industry experience preferred.
  • Must possess the equivalent of a Mechanic/RepairmanCertificate of competencyorits equivalent in a combination oftraining and experience
  • Must be able to operate a lathe machine, Milling Machine andcommon stationary Shop Machinery.
  • Must be able to weld gas and electric, including TIG and MIG.Possess the necessary skill to weld Cast Iron, Aluminum andStainless Steel.
  • Must be able to understand and perform repair and installationof plumbing systems.
  • Must be able to read and understand Technical Drawings.
Other Skills:
  • Computer Skills-Working knowledge of personal computerswithin a Windows environment with e-mail, Microsoft Word, Excel, and AMOS preferred as well as related printers andequipment.
  • Active Listening–listening to what other people are sayingand asking appropriate questions for clarification.
Language Requirements:
  • Ability to speak clearly, distinctly and cordially with guestsand employees.
  • Ability to speak and read English fluently, analyzes andinterpret procedure manuals and memos, technical procedures orgovernmental regulations. Ability to prepare basic reports andbusiness correspondence. Ability to effectively presentinformation and respond to questions from groups of employeesand guests.
  • Ability to speak additional language(s) is desirable.

  • All shipboard employees must be physically able to participatein emergencylife saving procedures and drills. Full use/range ofmotion of arm and legs as well as full visual, verbal and hearingabilities are required to receive and give instructions in the eventof an emergency requiring the lowering of a life boat. Theemployeemust occasionally lift and /or move up to 50 pounds.Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision,distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and theability to adjust focus.

    Working Conditions:While performing the duties of this job, the employee may at times works in outsideweather conditions and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. Thenoise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
