We’re on an exciting journey to create one of the most irresistible travel brands in the world and are building an epic team to help make our ambition a reality. We are on the hunt for a super talented ‘someone’ who is an expert at all types of Asian cuisine which obviously includes, sushi!

We are really passionate about food & that’s just how we roll… Pun intended! This ‘someone’ will be the sushi guru and know the right way to slice a fugu!

In other words, this ‘someone’ needs to know how to Make Ship Happen. Your excellent attention to detail and self-starter mentality means you can think quick on your feet and keep calm when ship gets real. Ultimately, we won’t be able to remember how we got by without you.

What You’ll be Up to:

  • Provide an epic experience for our guests at all times
  • Maintains a complete knowledge of all menu items and methods of preparation and service of each for the Sushi station and works to minimize wastage
  • Monitors inventory and notifies Chef De Cuisine of any materials or products that require replenishment
  • Maintains a complete knowledge of designated silverware and tableware for sushi service
  • Interacts with Sailors and provides information of each item and makes suggestions based on palette
  • Works on the sushi production and will be directly involved in the quality, consistency and quantities of the product
  • Prepares sushi and sushi products for the entire vessel and crew dining area when required
  • Ensures that all sushi products, equipment and cleaning materials are used in a cost effective manner
  • Assists with the transportation of food items from the main stores to the work areas when required
  • Inspects cleanliness and condition of assigned stations and service areas and rectifies any deficiencies
  • Carries out clear down routines after service and ensures the appearance and condition of all items meets Virgin Voyages standards
  • Ensures Sushi station is open and ready for service as per advertised hours of operation
  • Notifies Chef De Cuisine of any Sailor complaints raised and seeks to resolve
  • Is familiar with all cruise services/features and activations to respond to Sailor inquiries

Super Powers Required:

  • Minimum 4 years’ experience as Sushi Chef onboard a Cruise ship or 4/5* hotel/resort
  • Extensive knowledge of food handling procedures with regard to public health standards
  • Demonstrated experience in motivating, leading and engaging a diverse workforce to increase synergy and improve productivity
  • Passionate about people and able to handle guest complaints with a smile!
  • All certificates as required by the STCW code for this position
  • Ability to read, interpret and demonstrate the preparation of recipes
  • Basic knowledge of HACCP rules and regulations
  • Strong written & verbal skills
