Wash Specialist

Position Summary

Supervises the use of the washing machine. Maintains proper supplies, daily inspections,
maintenance requests, and scheduling for washing machine. Assures efficient collection, sorting,
cleaning, and distribution of laundry from the wash area. Responsible for the proper chemical
formulations, and that the proper chemicals are used and disposed of according to the Approved
Chemical List. Responsible for final inspections of all laundry leaving washing machine area.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

All duties and responsibilities are to be performed in accordance with the Company’s Safety,
Quality and Environmental standards. In accordance with the Company’s STAR program, each
employee shall conduct oneself in a professional and courteous manner at all times. This consists of
physical and verbal interactions with guests or fellow shipboard employees, in the presence of
guests or in crewmember areas.
Each shipboard employee may be required to perform all functions in various service venues and
throughout the ship.

§ Oversees preparation and sorting of linen prior to washing.
§ Responsible for final inspection of linens and garments before and after washing, reporting
any damage to the Laundry Master.
§ Utilize specialized expertise to clean any stains that washing machine cannot wash off.
§ Responsible for daily inspections and reporting maintenance needs of washing machines.
§ Scheduling and prioritization of wash cycles to meet timelines required for service areas
and guests.
§ Responsible for the laundering of all onboard linen, guest’s clothes, crewmembers’ clothes
and uniforms.
§ Responsible for ensuring proper formulation, use, and disposal of Ecolab chemicals.
§ Manages the washing process, including the use of properly weighted loads, selection of
proper formulas on washers, and maintaining a clean & safe wash area.
§ Ensuring all washing machines are clean and that dryer lint screens are cleaned.
§ Check safety devises, turning on steam, water and air valves
§ Check iron roll pressure
§ Report leaking valves, damaged insulation, air and water path.
§ Inform the Laundry Master about any malfunction on finishing equipment or problems
with safety mechanisms.
§ Help in other areas as needed including dry cleaning, ironing, folding stacking &
inspecting linen on shelves.
§ Other duties may be assigned. Understand and can apply in work practices environmental
policies and procedures concerning such functions as collection, sorting and disposal of solid
wastes and use of chemicals associated with cleaning, dry cleaning and laundry operations.
§ Know and follow all SQM policies.
§ Performs related duties as required. This position description in no way states or implies that

supervisor or management.

§ This position is responsible for cost containment through the proper use, handling and
maintenance of records, reports, supplies and equipment.

People management responsibilities to ensure optimal performance of the function.
§ This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications

§ A minimum of three (5) years of related experience and/ or training in the laundry field.
§ Specialized expertise in stain removal.
§ Understanding of various stains and chemical reactions.
§ All shipboard employees must be physically able to participate in emergency life saving
procedures and drills. Full use/range of motion of arms and legs as well as full visual, verbal
and hearing abilities are required to receive and give instructions in the event of an emergency
requiring the lowering of a lifeboat.

Hiring Requirements:

§ Ability to communicate tactfully and effectively with guests, department heads and
crewmembers to foresee and resolve problems and negotiate resolutions.
§ Completion of high school or GED required; university degree preferred.

Language Requirements:

§ Ability to speak English clearly, distinctly and cordially with guests.
§ Ability to read and write English in order to understand and interpret written procedures.
This includes the ability to give and receive instructions in written and verbal forms and to

effectively present information and respond to questions from guests, supervisors and co-
workers.

§ Ability to speak additional languages a plus, but not required.

Physical Requirements:

§ While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk;
use hands to touch, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear; and taste or smell.
The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities
required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth
perception, and ability to adjust focus.
§ All shipboard employees must be physically able to participate in emergency life saving
procedures and drills. Full use and range of arms and legs as well as full visual, verbal and
hearing abilities are required to receive and give instructions in the event of an emergency
