BASIC FUNCTION:

The maintenance and conservation of the vessel’s decks andsuperstructures.

QUALIFICATIONS:

The A.B. Seaman must hold the certificates required by the Flag State and he shouldhave basic safety training before employment. The A.B. Seaman is a senior memberof the deck crew.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

He shall complete the familiarization form of Chapter 2 according to the establishedprocedures.

The A.B. shall be familiar with the Safety & Quality Management Program, includinghis responsibilities in the Safety Organization according to the Emergency Plan andStation Bill.

The A.B. reports to the Bosun or 2nd Bosun and receives his daily orders from him.However, the A.B. Seaman shall also be able to take action independently when sorequired. He shall be familiar with the procedures of solving passenger complaints.

The A.B. shall always act as a professional sailor and shall be polite and consideratetowards passengers, visitors and fellow crew members.

The A.B. shall assist the Bosun and the 2nd Bosun in the daily guidance andeducation of the less experienced deck crew members.

The A.B. shall be alert and observant in the life onboard and give the Bosunsuggestions for improvement in the general safety and environmental operationonboard.The A. B. Seaman shall always use the correct safety and protection equipment

provided in the daily operations and follows the safety instructions from the Bosunand 2nd Bosun in this respect.
